FAQ
Answers to common questions about STATE.
Getting Started
How do I post my work?
Sign in, then click "Post Your Work" from the dashboard or nav menu. Give your project a title, add a cover image, and upload your first version's assets. You can add images, PDFs, videos, Figma links, and more.
What types of files can I upload?
Images (JPG, PNG, GIF, WebP), PDFs, MP4/WebM/MOV videos, GLTF/GLB 3D models, and links to Figma files, YouTube, Vimeo, or any URL as a link card.
Do I need an account to view projects?
No — the Explore and Feed pages are public. You need an account to post work, leave critiques, vote on assets, or follow other designers.
Critiques & Scoring
How does scoring work?
STATE tracks two separate scores:
- Concept Score — earned by posting work and receiving feedback. You gain points when others critique your project and when your critiques are upvoted.
- Crit Score — earned by leaving critiques and having your critiques upvoted. The more useful your feedback, the higher your Crit Score.
How do I leave a critique?
Open any project and scroll to the critiques section. Use the three-part form: What's working, What's not, and What to try. All three fields are recommended for the most useful feedback.
Can I upvote a critique?
Yes. Each critique has a star upvote button. Upvoting a critique gives the author +8 Crit Score and gives you +2 Crit Score for recognizing good feedback.
Can I reply to a critique?
Yes — you can reply directly to any top-level critique. Replies are threaded one level deep.
Versions & Assets
What is a version?
A version is a snapshot of your project at a point in time. You can add multiple versions to show your design evolution (v1, v2, v3…). Critiques are tied to the version they were left on.
How do I add a new version?
Go to your project, click "Edit project," and use the "Add version" option. Each version can have its own set of assets, title, and description.
What is the green star (★) on a version?
The green star marks the version whose assets have received the most community votes. It indicates which version the community considers the strongest iteration of the design.
How does voting on assets work?
On any project, you can vote for the single asset you think is the best design. You get one vote per project — choosing a new asset moves your vote. The most-voted asset gets a green star, and votes count as 1 Crit Score point for the project owner.
Account & Profile
How do I change my username?
Go to your profile page and click "Edit profile." Your previous username is retained so existing links don't break.
How do I follow another designer?
Visit their profile and click the Follow button. Their new posts will appear in your Feed.
What is the Patreon tier?
Supporting STATE on Patreon gives you a badge on your profile and comments, and helps keep the platform running.
Moderation & Safety
How do I report a project or critique?
Use the flag icon on any project or comment. The STATE moderation team reviews all reports.
What happens if I violate the community guidelines?
First offense: a warning. Repeated or severe violations may result in account suspension. See the full Community Guidelines for details.
